Print finishing adhesives

Only a limited number of the wide range of adhesives are used in print finishing. There are also special applications served by Intercol Adhesvies, even if these applications are insignificant in terms of quantity. Intercol is a specialty adhesive manufacturer in water-based adhesives.

An essential prerequisite for the realisation of a bond is that the adhesive for film formation during application is present in liquid form as a dispersion, solution or melt (hot melt adhesive). In adhesive language, the terms glue, film, drying, moisture and paste are often used.

water-based adhesives

Most of our adhesives based on water-soluble (or dispersible, emulsion) polymers, which can be of animal, vegetable or synthetic origin. Pastes are aqueous swelling products which, in contrast to glues, form a highly viscous, non-stringy mass even in low concentrations.

Interesting information on adhesives can also be found about are adhesives range in the packaging technology.

Common adhesives in print finishing:

Glues are aqueous solutions of adhesives. The solutions can be composed of animal, vegetable or synthetic raw materials in water.

Typical starch glue paste consists of 2 - 20 % renewable raw materials and 80 - 98 % water.

Production of waterborn paste adhesives

Boil wheat, potato, rice or corn starch and allow to swell with water. This produces an adhesive with a high water content. Even small amounts form a highly viscous mass that does not pull strings (unlike glue).

Important for all bonding

When gluing, the adhesive must be liquid, i.e. a dispersion, a solution or a melt (hot melt adhesive).
