Staples are usually glued together in batches of about 50. This is done by a light glue application often based on PVAC or VAE glue, which makes it easy to load the staples into a stapler. Important about the glue is that it adheres well enough to the staples, is transparent and breaks off easily without annoying glue marks. additional advantage may be that the staples are coated. Attention will have to be paid to the anti-corrosion properties of the adhesive in combination with the steel used.
More applications of PVAC adhesive
PVAc (polyvinyl acetate) adhesives are used for various applications, mainly because of their strong adhesion and versatility.
Some example applications:
- Woodworking: PVAc adhesives, often known as white wood glues, are widely used for bonding wood. PVAC is well known in the production of furniture, structures and other wood projects. There are several water resistance classes, such as D1, D2, D3 and D4.
- Paper and cardboard: These adhesives are also used for bonding paper and cardboard, such as in bookbinding and packaging.
- Textiles: PVAc adhesives can be used for bonding fabrics and textile products2.
- Construction adhesive: In construction, they are used for various applications, such as bonding porous materials.
- Hobby and domestic use: Known as school glue or craft glue, they are often used for all kinds of creative projects.
- For specific projects, Intercol can offer a tailor-made adhesive. These include properties such as:
- Adhesion range (porous cardboard, or plastic).
- Specific approvals (food packaging, construction, playthings, etc.)
- Drying speed (as is important in this process)
- Open time

Specific adhesives for food packaging
Coated food packaging often uses food-safe adhesives that comply with strict regulations to ensure they do not release harmful substances into the food. Here are some types of adhesives that are suitable:
- Hot-melt adhesives: These adhesives are often used for bonding cardboard packaging and comply with FDA, BfR and BRC certifications.
- Cold adhesives: These adhesives, such as SML adhesives, comply with European regulations (1934/2005/EC and 10/2011/EC) and are suitable for food packaging
